ID needed. Red/black queen?

cable_hogue Jul 20, 2003 11:42 AM

I found this one on my patio this morning being wrapped up by a spider. (Not stung yet). It was the stangest thing. It was walking along the flagstone and this tiny spider started running in tight circles around it. It wasn't apparent what the spider was doing at first. It was so quick I couldn't tell it was a spider. I turned around to find something to put her in and when I turned back she was hobbled. I quickly snagged her away from being breakfast and pulled the web off. Anyways...

Could this be a fertile queen?
I have this curiosity whether a viable colony could be started?
Cheers!

It is possible she is fertile, so go ahead and give her a try. The red/black one is P. californicus
