Thinking of trying to breed my prized 2001 HET Albino Girl advice

Damon Jul 20, 2003 11:44 AM

Hey guys I have been wondering if it may be possible to breed my most prized female in my collection. She is a 2001 HET albino female from Clark.

She is the only snake in my collection that I think just makes the breeding weight, plus she is kinda stocky and not skinny at all. She weighs 1615 grams.

Do you think I could throw my male albino in with her? If so could I do it at this time of the year?, without any special cooling? Do you think I could get atleast 4 eggs from her?

I've never bred my snakes before, I'm dying to do it, but also wondering if my girl is still not heavy enough.

Damon, the question is whether she is sexually mature enough to breed. She is certainly heavy enough to breed, but she needs length as well to accommodate the eggs. You can't wait to see what the first eggs contain, can you? I know the feeling!, but another 12 months may make all the difference, and you can be virtually certain that she will be sexually mature by then - and probably a great deal longer and larger. Don't push it! Have a little patience and you will reap the rewards. Rick Page.

Damon, I use 1500 grams as my rule of thumb. My unproven hypo female was 2000 grams, and my het axanthic and green ghosts were 1650 respectively. Look at your animal, does she look like a robust healthy animal? If she does, if she has been eating prior to breeding season, I say go for it. Her age, and weight point in the direction that if you choose to breed her now, things should go well.

And she just gave me 6 HUGE eggs 3 days ago, and she's already taken a 130g rat (yesterday). Crazy. 1500g is just a suggestion to people that are new and unfamiliar with breeding. There's some 2500g females I wouldn't even think of trying to breed, yet there are a ton of 1200g females that I would try and breed (and have).
