I just learned Bioclon is conducting clinical trials over the next 12 months in 9 hospitals in Africa. They are testing the effectiveness of their new "PanAfrican" Antiophido Serum. In simpler terms: They are testing a Polyvalent Snake Antivenom to cover all of the common venomous snakesbites in Africa.

I will most likely get further information at the Snakebite Symposium later this month.

Hey Al. Do you happen to know how this serum will compare to the already very reasonable SAIMR polyvalent? I believe the last time I heard anything from or about them, it was roughly $60 US/vial. That's been a while, so it may have gone up or down. If I'm not mistaken though, the Bioclon AV for NA venomous snakes is amazingly cheaper than Crofab (hard to do though, right?). I'm just wondering if they are wanting to do the same thing with SAIMR. Also, let us know if it covers more or less species than SAIMR's polyvalent.
