Awesome enclosure set-up

icedearthgoddess Oct 04, 2005 11:12 AM

I am looking for a particular set-up that I came across one time and I cannot seem to find it again. I don't know who has it, but I love it! All I can remember is that it has tile "substrate" and has a "shelf-like" apperance. It had plants (plastic?) I think, and what I liked most was the "two story" look. I don't know if there were "stairs" to get to the second level. I just really like how it had a second story to double the amount of walking area in the cage. I wanted to make my 20 gallon tank something like it, but I can't find the picture again. Please everyone help by posting your enclosures! Thanks!

That is a sweet set up. How big is your tank and where did you get the things to make the stair way?

icedearthgoddess Oct 04, 2005 09:36 PM

I love that look! It is beautiful!!! If you can give me some instructions on how you have put together such a wonder set-up. I love the stairs. The only thing I am concerned with is, do the geckos ever "fall off"? I know they should be smart enough not to, but have you ever seen them fall off? I don't want any geckos getting hurt... I know I sound like a worried mother, but this gecko is like my baby Well if you have any suggestions I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

It's a 40 breeder (36, 18, 18) with 12 x 12 tile as substrate. I got the tile from home depot and had them cut to fit. The stairs are made from 6 x 6 tile and I used an epoxy called plastic fusion to hold them in place. It sets in minutes but I let it sit over night. You should be able to get everything at home depot for around 20 bucks. My more adventurous girl loves to explore up there at night. I've never seen them fall off, I think they know their limits and won't jump or fall.

May I ask how big this tank is?

Perhaps you are thinking of my setup? There are no stairs, but nothing is more than 4" apart, and my leo never has any problem getting around. This tank is 10g, and I used slate tiles.

I'm actually working on a 20g right now using foam and grout...I'll make a posting when it's complete.

No I don't think it was yours I was thinking about, however yours is gorgeous!!! I am so jealous of all these beautiful set-ups! I hope my can hold it's own when I am finished. I am going to Home Depot tomorrow!!! I should have it setup after the weekend. I will post pics as soon as I finish it! The tank I was thinking of has more greenery. It looked more jungle like, and though that is not the "natural habitat" leos are found in, it still was breath-taking. Thank you all so much for giving me such great ideas... I hope no one is upset that I want to copy some ideas from you guys. I will give credit to any and all ideas that are take-offs from you guys. Thanks again!

I forgot to ask what you used to keep the slate together against the walls and whatnot...It is not free-standing I assue. Please let me know. Thanks again for all the help.

Oh no...lol...I don't want a squished gecko! Everything is held in place by 100% clear silicone. Everything comes out in 9 large pieces (including the floor), except for the back wall - that's there for good.
