could it be axanthic???

jfarah Oct 04, 2005 12:21 PM

Here is a side pic of my 2 year-old male coastal that i hope is axanthic. I plan to breed him for the first time this year (my first time breeding carpets) and I'm hoping he is old enough (large enough) to breed. I have many many pics of this beautiful snake if anyone is curious.

Just thought i'd post a pic for kicks!!! It could be 2 generations before i know if his coloring is the result of a genetic mutation.

All comments and questions are welcome!

Thanks for looking,

Joe Farah

If it is your rich, if it’s not he’s really cool looking!

Ya know, if I were you, I’d not deal with all the stress from that, and just give him to me

Check out the ivory JCP. VERY COOOOL!

Cool coloration. Hope it proves out. Where did you get him from?

I got him from a hobbiest in Maryland who received him in a trade and could tell me nothing of his background. He convinced me to buy it by sending tons and tons of close-up pics.

I hope he proves out too.

....and to the guy with the good sense of humor: If I ever decide to give him away for free I'll offer him to you first

Here are a few more recent pics of him and a female IJ.

Thanks for looking,

Joe

That's a beautiful snake but I'd have doubts about it being axanthic.
Not scientific, I know, but the carpets that appear on (groan) Crocodile Hunter are usually that kind of colour suggesting a locality trend (the ones that they film are probably found in and around Beerwah (?)). I'm not guessing at the origins of yours but I'd say it falls within the limits of natural variation for Coastals.

Beautiful all the same. It would be cool if you could partner it with something similar and try to accentuate the trait.
