New female - what do you think?

msalem Oct 04, 2005 03:50 PM

I just got this female (1200 grams) and I don't want to be one of those people that thinks that their normal bp is carrying a gene for something but every time I see her I really do think that she might be hiding something so please feel free to give me your honest opinions and I know...the only way I will really know is to breed her and prove her out...so also please tell me what you think I should breed her to?

Thanks for looking,
Mohamed

She looks kind of Burgundy-ish in the top two photos - but that last one is too dark to really tell. She sure is nice whatever she is.

well it looks like a nice normal. As far as "hiding something" you really never know. Any normal could be het for something or other... But you'd have to breed it against all the ressive morphs to find out. Maybe she's trying to tell you something. If you she would be kind enough to tell you which one... then you'd be set. LOL

Best of luck with her.

PS, or just breed her sons back to her, but then you get into the 50% het male dilemma...

What do you think I should breed her with? I am planning to breed her to my pastel this way if she is carrying something I will have a pastel male 50% ?? and breed him back to her or should I breed her with my het pied? What do you think? I'll try to take better pics of her too. By the way, did you notice her belly and her tail? She has a very clean belly and the sides are high and faded by the end by the tail on both sides and then only her tail has these paw print marks, ever see anything like that?

Thanks,
Mohamed

I'd put her in with your pied then breed a son back to mom. If that color (? burgundy) is genetic breed the son to a sibling the next year and have burgundy pieds! A nice little project!

To me it's a really sweet normal...but what do I know?
as far as what to breed her to, it depends. If you have another female, but one to the pastel and one to the het pied. Keep all the poss het pied females, and try and trade them with somebody (if you know somebody you can trust) or just mate them back to daddy in a couple yrs. Repeat process every year till a pied hatches.

Belly piture #1:

Belly piture #2:

Awesome head on this male:

But overall body has fairly normal colors:

In my case, I'm pretty sure it's just a pretty normal (so does a few other more experienced breeders)...

Bristen.
