New to ATBs and might be adopting 2

nightserpent Oct 04, 2005 05:48 PM

Hello!

I might be adopting a couple of ATBs soon. What I know is that they are roughly 3-1/2', quite tame (phew!), eat well (never ate live), and are currently in a 20"h x 12"w x 12"d Rubbermaid with a Zoo-Med heating pad attached to the back, and PVC perches.

I do not believe I will be getting their enclosure in the deal, so I have to provide one for myself. I have a 25 gallon aquarium: 20"h x 24"w x12"d. I imagine I'd be heating the tank with a ceramic bulb outside of a half covered screen mesh top. I might switch to a Pro-heat infrared panel later down the line.

Branches, large water container, two hides. I'll probably at least start with newsprint for the substrate until I have observed them long enough.

Does this sound reasonable? I only want to adopt them if I can provide them with an appropriate set-up.

Thank you for any advice or input you can share!

-Paul

I think that cage is only good enough for one animal that size. Get yourself a sterilite and separate them. A human heating pad on low under the plastic tote should be perfect to heat it. I heat my atb cages from the floor. They go down for heat and up in a perch to cool off. Maintaining 60% humidity or higher is a must. I like cypress mulch because I literally just pour a little water on the floor. The floor is heated >>> instant humidity, but if you can do it with newspaper go for it.
