Gutloading~ hhmmmm is there a better way to do this?

Breeze007 Oct 05, 2005 12:09 AM

Hi again

Now I have combatted the eating problem I was wondering if there is a better way to gutload crickets/mealworms? The only way that has been successful is to buy the container of crickets/mealworms, add some grated carrot, potato peeling etc along with some 'cricket diet' and calcium powder and hope to catch a fully gutloaded cricket when it comes to feeding time. In the past I have tried using a seperate container for gutloading but out of the 7-10 crickets I put in there only 1 or 2 survive. Strange I know. I usually do this at least 8-24 hours before feeding time. Any suggestions would be appreciated as no one I have asked has been particularly specific in what to do for this and I can't seem to get it right.

Oh and just a quick thought on ur opinion about the 'Exo Terra Flexarium' as the baby gets bigger? {Long time to go yet but just looking at the moment} Heard they can hold humidity well and ideal for arboreal lizards. Just wondered what your thoughts were on this.

Thank You :-}

Try some nature zone total cricket cubes. You just drop a few in your cricket bucket and then feed the crix to your dragon about an hour later.

I've read studies that have showed that gut loading has little or no effect on the nutrient content of the feeder insect. From my own experience it works, when the insects are raised on vitamin supplimented diet, but one feeding won't have much effect, your better off dusting.
