severa Jul 20, 2003 01:10 PM

My leo's love the can o worms but I have not tried the catapillars, grasshoppers, crickets, or snails and I was wondering if any of you had any luck with any of them other than the meal worms?
Reason I am asking is besause drsfostersmith.com is having a sale and the cans are 2.99 a piece as apose to what i usually pay, 6.99. If yall are interested in the site it is
posted below.

Thanks in advance for the replies!

There is a thread below that someone posted about can-o-worms if you would like to take a look. But You shoudnt only feed your leo the canned food it should really only be used as a back up real crickets and mealworms are higher in nutrients and they should be used as a staple diet.

its not quite the answer I was looking for, i am not trying to be rude at all i just want to know if anyone has tried all the other insects in the can, and as for the post below, I have read and posted to it, but as all successful people with mass amounts of knowledge come together with info, opinions vary to order of success, thanks for the reply though

my leos love the can o'crickets. I dump some in their food bowl and they eat as they please. They did not eat the snails, and the grasshoppers seem a bit large ( they did eat them, just not like the crickets). Just tried the pillars, seemed to be ok. My hatchlings seem to go for the mini-size crickets without any coaxing or training also. I put them in a small shallow bowl ( its actually the lid off a can o'crickets) and leave it in the cage and they quickly learn where to go. Hatched 5 babies last week, and they've figured out where the food is already.

thank you so much, do you think an adult that is capable of taking pinkies would manage the grasshoppers? Or do you think that it would be too much of a struggle? Congrats on the hatches, I have some due aswell. My last hatches were raised on prodominantly live mealies and can-o-worms. The growth rate was incredible compared to the hatches before them which were brought up on mainly live crickets and some live mealies.
Thanks again,
Severa

You're welcome. My adults will take the hoppers, they just seem to have an easier time with crickets. But if you want a little variety for them, I say try it. Good luck with your hatches.
