Give your chams a blank wall to look at?

jdany Jul 20, 2003 01:11 PM

A few weeks ago, I moved my wife's red eared sliders into the same room as my chams. I had a towel blocking the side of the enclosure facing the aquarium. I noticed yesterday that from the front of the cage, the cham can still see the corner of the aquarium with the turtles in it.

The cham was towards that spot in the cage where you get the view of the aquarium, staring intently. (stressed)

I know a lot of you have a lot of different reptiles that you may keep in a "reptile room" or some variation of..

How do you make your arrangement so that you keep other animals out of eye-shot of your chameleon cages.

I have my cages pulled about 2ft away from the wall the openings of my cages facing the wall. The sides and back of these cages covered with towels. So, all they have to look at is a big, blank, white wall.

It's getting the job done, but this is getting rediculous.

I'd like to gather some ideas and maybe stir up something I haven't thought of yet.

Hi-

You need to provide a visual barrier if your chameleon is stress at the obscured view of the turtle.

Well I only keep chameleons, but we do have a dog and bird in the main house.

How do you make your arrangement so that you keep other animals out of eye-shot of your chameleon cages.

Well I use large and medium sized towels to block the view, and the cages are side by side.

I have my cages pulled about 2ft away from the wall the openings of my cages facing the wall. The sides and back of these cages covered with towels. So, all they have to look at is a big, blank, white wall.

Well the chameleons need air flow or you will have problems, the towels do allow for some but now as much if they were not there. I keep all my cages a few inches off the wall and use one towel on each side of the cage to keep one from seeing another. Try putting the turtle on the same side of the room as the chameleon. Hope this helps!
