why do they feel the need to do this?

the carpet in one of my snakes cages is an inch short and no matter which side i slide it to she does her businus on the glass, i think she enjoys being difficult

LOL yup they do. Try trickin' her and cut one the right size. She'll go crazy tryin' to find an open spot

it was cut the right size but its a washable carpet and it shrunk alittle

my snake does similar things. maybe theyre trying to assert themselves or something. my snake uses his hide box as a restroom, then wont go back in it till i clean it. i offered him a second box and he just alternates between soiling the two.

I haven't tried it myself, but I read someone's theory about how you are removing their scent when you clean their enclosure.The snake is simply trying to replace that, thus "marking it's territory," so to say. Whomever it was that wrote this swore by placing a small amount of the old substrate in the cage after cleaning, so it still smelled like home.
