drymarchon max sizes

simias Oct 05, 2005 10:57 AM

I'd be curious to hear who out there thinks they have Dry specimens that are close (or over ?) the max recorded size for each taxon. Anybody with a 9.5 or 10-footer ?

I was talking to some folks in Costa Rica that had a serpentarium and said they had a 4 meter long BT.....It was on breeding loan.

i have an approx. 5 year old wc yt male [bob's] that is just over 9' though not particularly heavily built. in direct contrast, his g/friend is a cb 03 [dean's] who is now fully 8' w/ tremendous mass. i believe she will eventually become the larger of the 2 no doubt as her growth rate is astounding. will she hit 10' someday? probably, and not before too long i wouldn't think......he, on the other hand seems to be in no particular hurry and probably won't get much bigger.

DAMN!

She comes from massive stock...kinda wish I'd have held onto one or 2.

yeah dean, she was well started when she got here & i switched her to f/t small rats at about 4 or 5 months by removing the front limbs thereby making the rats more cylindrical and easy for her to swallow. she started to explode sizewise from that point on. luckily, though rarely handled, she's now fairly friendly though hates being removed from her cage........

I've found 102" Texans before. You KNOW they must get bigger than than what I've seen. So how about it? What's the largest Texas and Eastern on record?

Forky

PS I've found a 102" Bullsnake too, Indigos I would think would have the potential to get bigger but who knows. Found an 80" Bull this past Saturday.

How was that Bullsnake as far as thickness? That's a big snake! Was it compareable to the Texas Indigo in over all size?

That particular snake was not that fat. Although I have found 7.5'-8' Bull snakes that were pretty durn thick, as thick as or thicker than an Indigo of the same size.

I have a huge, old female here that's all of 9 feet and probably more. Thick as hell too!

I think that would be a reportable size and maybe the record! I've seen plenty of 7-8 footers, but nothing close to 9'..I know there have been anecdotal reports of TXN's that long, particularily from the "Snake King" in south Texas years ago, but I'm not sure any were ever verified..Measure that beast 5 times and give us the actual length it averages out..Dry's are awful hard to "guestimate" because of their mass..
I wouldn't be terribly suprised if it is that long, just never actually seen a 9 footer documented..
Anyone else seen a TXN at 9'?????

I too have heard of 9' erebennus being sold by the "Snake King". It's a shame he used to sell erebennus as feeders.
With that said, Bubba is just under 8' and should he continue along his current growth rate, he could reach 9' within a couple of years, perhaps less!

Best regards,

Jeff

It would be difficult to hold him up with one arm!
I took him to a herpetological society meeting about a month ago and one of the younger attendees held him for a few minutes then declared, so much as he wanted to continue holding him, Bubba was simply too heavy for him to hold any longer.
The photo I posted is an older photo of a nice 7' female I plan to pair Bubba up with next month. I will get a photo of Bubba and post it for you, as he really is a very impressive and well mannered guy...
