Lighting debate? Who uses daytime lighting, and are there any who don't? more..

Hi, I have had my geckos for years, and when I was researching them there were a couple of sites that said daytime lighting wasn't necessary, just wondering what everyone opinions were.

i have a flourescent but i rarley use it. my understanding is that day/night cycles are needed, but my apt. has some huge windows and i never shut the blinds so all my geckos get their cycle.

I have lights on all my tanks, just regular 25 watt bulbs, all are on timers from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm. And I have "moonlight" bulbs for night time viewing, the ones made for nocturnal reptiles.

The day/night cycle is very important, but as another poster had said, room light is often adequate. They definately don't "need" a sun's glare so to speak. I personally use room light as well. Overhead lighting is a great way to heat the cage though, especially if using a naturalistic vivarium.
