GoldyGirl Oct 05, 2005 12:43 PM

OK. Some teacher at my school called me and said come get this ball python, someone who rented from her found him in her toilet and they were afraid of him so they dumped Lye(Spelling) it's Acid and he has some burns..Definate Respiratory infecion but other than that he looks fine..I have him in a 10 gallon since he's tiny prolly only 6-7 months old with a heat lamp and an UTH to help with the Respiratory. I was wondering what I should put on his burns to help him out..Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Silver sulfide cream if you have it. Silver sulf is what you get from doc/emergency room for burns. Nice and cooling to the touch. Only problem with keeping any @ is fact it must be refrigerated.

Good stuff though. I think you almost need a script to get it.

Im, not a vet but i recommend.
Keep him sterile, in a warm box/terrarium with sterile material.

Im not a vet, but I do know that burns must be sterile and moist.
Sterilise the wounds with ex alcohol, and add som salva ex vaseline.

Best thing to do is to contact at vet or a specialist on chemical burns.

I'd be tempted to call the MSPCA... that's serious cruelty! Why not just call animal control if one is afraid of a baby BP??

anyway

My adopted BP was badly burned by a "hot rock". The vet gave me some sort of bluish fluid for cleaning the burn, then some silvadene cream. I'd do this twice a day, and the are looks 1000X better. Expect a lot of sheds as the BP generates new skin.

A hide box would be a good idea, it is probably very stressed out.

I agree with the above, a trip to the vet would probably be best.

Good luck!

alcohol would be quite painful for the snake and not a good idea at all.

Put neosporin on the burn and I work at a vet so I'll ask the doc tomorrow for something for the burn Anyways I get home tonight and my mom tells me the lady who gave it to me found the original owner of the lil guy..He had escaped because it's his 10 year old son's and he left the lid off..The lady who gave him to me told him hes' not gettin his snake back because he's obviously not taken care of..He also said it's a year old..He's TINY! I'm gonna let him finish shedding and heal a little maybe this weekend try feeding him he looks starved. Hopefully he'll be ok though. Thanks again everyone I'll keep you updated

Lye produced caustic gases when added to water. He may have permanant damage from breathing it in. FYI You treat lye (caustic) burns by immediately dousing with vinegar(acid)to neutralize it. But you probabaly didn't get him soon enough for that, the damage was already done.
