Newbie Gecko Question

doobwaa Oct 05, 2005 05:57 PM

Which , if any, gecko would be happy being housed in a 75 gal. tank that is set up as a Paludarium?

I set up the tank which is basically 1/4 land and 3/4 water making up the footprint. The water is about 8" deep also. There are various branches, logs, etc above the waterline that would create alot of additional surface for the animal.

Live plants are doing pretty well in both land and water. The air and water temp is mid- 70s and the humidity is low 70s. I have a new lighting system and mister coming to boost the humidity to the 80's.

There are 2 fire belly toads that will be relocated to another tank and besides a pleco and 1 molly in the wtarer the tank is empty.

My 5 year old LOVES geckos and I wanted to get him started with "his" first pet. It would be great if there was a gecko that would be able to take advantage of the set-up we have--- if not then there is always room for another tank.

So the question is which, if any, gecko would be happy in this environment. Preferably one that wouldnt get too big.

Any info would be great -- as stated I am new to Geckos and am reading up as much as possible.

Thanks!

CD

hey

I dont any gecko u could put int the tank cuz i would b afraid to come home 1 day andsee it flotting in the water. Someting that u coudput in that is just as cool as a gecko is a crocodile skink. they look like a miniture croc and loves all the conditions u have the only thing is u mite have to raise the humidity and thats it. Look at lllreptile.com to see them and go to http://www.tribolonotus.com/ for care tips

Hopes that helps some

i dont think that is a good setup for many geckos.. because the geckos you get could and most likely will drown.. with that much water... and for a small gecko there is probly rhacs... which i believe can live in that but not many others... maybe day geckos or tokays... you could house more than one in a tank that size prolly like 3-4 tokays and prolly more day geckos depending on the size and prolly 30-4 rhacs depending on the breed you get... it is completely up 2 u but i dont think many geckos would fare to well in a tank with that much water... but i could be wrong and ur gecko could thrive... but i would be suspicious of a drowning.... which would prolly break ur lil kids hear... lol but it is up 2 u... if that is a risk you are willing to take... not trying to sound like a jerk just letting you know all the posibilities.. i would do some research on some of the species i have mentioned and see which one is in ur price range and which one ur son likes and which ones would do well in the setup ur providing
