My Leo has gone dark

geckoman_nl Oct 05, 2005 06:04 PM

Hello,
I noticed my geckos have gone dark. It was very bright yellow and gradually began to darken, I thought it was due to shedding but it has shed now and a week later it is like a brown colour. Both of the geckos are seperate as I do not want to breed them. They are healthy and still eating and alert so I do not think it is down to stress. The hot spot is 88F.

Can someone give me a list of possible causes for this dramatic colour change please?

it is due to either cold or stress. You would need to rule out a medical condition. Also even if they are housed seperately, they may be smelling or seeing each other and stressing. If you rule out all forms of stress, including medical conditions like worms, and temp issues, I would say it is prob getting ready for brumation.

is your gecko an albino b/c if it is i have heard that if your hot spot isn't at a comstant 90 it can develope dark pigment. Do you have a under the tank heater? and if you do Do you keep it on all of the time? If not then i would buy a reostat and a digital themometer and monitor the temp
