SNEEZING????

RaverTanker Oct 05, 2005 10:51 PM

Tonight after holding my juvie green, he had what appeared to be several sneezes. When I heard sounds coming from his cage, I lifted his hide cave and his mouth opened and a sneezing sound came out, I thought perhaps he was choking or had something caught in his throat, but he didn't just eat and I have coconut soil substrate and didn't see how I could help him and let him be. After a few moments, he poked his head out and pointed it up with his mouth just gaping open. Has anyone seen this kind of behavior before? Also, just wondering how long a 150 gallon tank will last him before he outgrows it. What is a good snake length to cage ratio? He's about 4 feet long right now and was born in spring. Also, are anacondas loners or do they get along with other snakes? I'm thinking about getting a retic. Tell me straight up if they're going to fight though and I'll dismiss the notion immediately. Does male to female differences across species matter? Thanks for your input in advance!!!

Sounds like your conda has a severe upper respitory infection. What are your temps and humidity? In most cases, you are going to need to raise both of them. Try gettting a humidity hut (a rubbermaid container with sphagnum moss in it). Update the cage whenever the snake doubles the length of it, out of a 150 gallon, you might as well put it in an 8' long x 30" wide x 18" high (or larger) cage. For instance if the snake was in a 4' cage, update the cage when the snake reaches 8'.

Deffidently loners. You should never house two snakes together, especially if they are a different species of snake. The only time two snakes should be kept together is during breeding, and you cannot breed a boa to a python...

Hope this helps,
~Ben
