geckoman2000 Jul 20, 2003 02:24 PM

i put about 15 crickets in a 10 gallon tank with gutload food and the gutload water stuff i have the egg cartons in there also. I know that the female needs somewhere to lay her eggs. Is spanghum moss ok? Also please tell me anything else that i need.

Moss will orobably be too loose to hold the eggs...I would just use potting soil in something shallow, like a petre dish. You'll need to be able to put the whole dish of "dirt" and eggs in the incubator so use whatever is convenient.

wom man said on his site that the crickets dont need an incubator.

In order to hatch, the substrate has to be kept moist and warm, about 80 degrees. In the summer, I'm sure you can do it without an incubator but not during colder months. They just wont hatch.

I have my crickets in a big rubbermaid container with a few egg cartons in their I use a wash cloth as their water container in one of those rounded up rubbermaid self serve continers. Hols water well and the crickets dont drown. Oon the other side I have the food and so forth in. I also use a larger sized washcloth that is folded up and thats where the crickets lay their eggs for me. It works well and its kept outdoors. And well here in central cali, its quite warm so it works well.
