Wrong sex question. OH MY!!!!

Say you came home from daytona with a great male co-dom only to go through and pop your animals just to see whats what one evening and discover he's a girl, confirmed by probing also. I just wonder how you respectable breeders in this bizz would handle this. Pleezzz gimme some advice because im speechless right now due to the fact that ive been feeding a female instead of a male, and with breeding season around the bend, finding a male might be hard......patience grasshopper.

Most breeders will swap a missexed animal, as long as it is in the same condition of health as it was when purchased. In your case, this is especially true, as co-dom females are worth more than the males (except the spider, and I predict that will change as well really soon.)

A male can breed multiple females (Norms., Spiders, Pastels) and Theoretically produce clutches that may contain as many as 1/2 Spiders per clutch, plus some cool mixes (BumbleBee).
A Female can only have one clutch and so, if your wanting to produce Spiders for out-crosses a male is the best bet.
Ergo Males are more expensive and females are a little cheaper.

Just an example, Pastel females on the other hand are needed to produce Super Pastels. Until a Super Form of the Spider has been confirmed, the Spider females will be less expensive than the Males.

I'd say you lucked out as the females are worth more than the males - I'm sure if you aren't happy with the snake the breeder will take it back and try to make things right. If they don't have a comprable male then maybe you can post an ad in the classifieds for one for sale or trade.

Lucking out isnt good when its a spider. I have no use for a female. However, all is going to work itself out. thanx....

I think people will be changing thier minds in the future about the value of a female spider in their collection.

speedingbandit Oct 06, 2005 12:37 PM

Maybe,, but not if your wanting to produce a few...thanx.

shinysnakeskin Oct 06, 2005 10:31 PM

why arent they more in price then the males?.....so when you went to the show you wanted a male and instead you got a female.... am i right?.....how come you arent happy about it?.....

Duh??? no offense meant but how many spiders can you produce with a female spider????? And how many with a male??? Think about it, its not that confusing..thanx

shinysnakeskin Oct 06, 2005 11:32 PM

i dont know much about co-doms.... so if you breed two spiders together youre not going to get a hypo or super spider right?..... your just gona get spiders and normals?..... sorry i dont know..... i was just curious cause females are usually more than males.... and i dont know why the female spiders are less....

Better yet - think of how many spiders you can create with a homozygous spider think of how many bumblebees and other mixes you can create with the homozygous spider as opposed to a regular spider, think of how much a homozygous spider would be worth. Unless you are only focused on assembly line breeding there is a lot of potential in having a female.

That is very true, females are valuable, but when ya get that first one, it needs to be a male since your wanting to produce a few babies...homo spiders would be great but by now they should be proven....just think of a super spider and a super pastel,,killer bees hopefuly...I hope everyone enjoys this hobby and these combos as much as i do...

gentlemantw0 Oct 07, 2005 01:05 AM

Trying to make a homo spider doesn't sound like what he's looking for, and he'd need a male do it. Plus the added time of raising the babies and then breeding them and so on.

If you want to make bumble bee's or superbee's, spider females are inefficiant.
For starters-Spider females are more expensive than pastel females, so you couldn't easily afford having a pastel male and lots of spider females.
Secondly- By breeding a male spider to several pastel females you will save money and still produce the same about of BB's.
Third- Let's say you get your male bumblebee. If you have all adult female spiders you can only produce more bee's/spiders/pastels. If you have adult female pastels instead of the spider females, all you have to do is breed a male bumblebee back to them and you are on your way to superbee's.
Fourth- You just can't make superbees with spider females. Period.

and fifth, if we are talking an 05 baby here you can produce nothing in 06 from a female but have a shot at producing a lot in 06 from an 05 male.

toshamc Oct 07, 2005 11:14 AM

The point was that you shouldn't dismiss female spiders - just because there is no super - a homo spider is worth more as it can do more - produce more spiders and spider crosses than a regular spider and a homo spider can only be gotten with a female spider. Of course he wants a male spider now - because he wants to make as much money off of his investment as quickly as possible. So get the male line up a bunch of female normals and mass produce - why not everyone else does.

100% in agreement. Although I currently have only 1 1.0 Pastel, and he's a 05', by the time my (06 Spider 0.1 is big enough to produce My Pastel will have produced a few clutches by then and they could possibly be traded for a 1.0 Super Pastel and if luck and the BP Gods are with me and the Spider and the Super
co-operate I will get my beloved Killer Bee......Beautiful....

I can dream can't I?

A superpastel to a spider will still only produce pastels and bumble bees first generation, you would still have to breed back a pastel to one of the bumble bees to get a killer bee with is a superpastel spider correct?

and, isn't the whole "homo" spider thing still a theoretical idead that know one knows for sure because Kevin isn't talking? Even if it was true it would take a lot of time and effort to prove which of the offspring was the homo and even then it seems like a long shot.

Thanks for the correction Mr. Mass. I should have double checked, before I made a Boner out of myself LOL!

For a Killer Bee I wouldn't mind waiting a extra few years......

I wasn't offended I just try and correct it before it catches on and everything has it wrong. I nearly had my license suspended because of a mispelled name. I recieved a ticket for a headlight being out, lost the ticket, went to pay it, and was told I had no tickets in my name. I couldn't figure it out but I just went on with life until I recieved a notice in the mail. Apparantly if they misspell your name it doesn't matter because they have your license number, but I couldn't pay a ticket I couldn't get reprinted because the woman in the court office couldn't find it.

Sounds like someone wasn't doing their job. They could have ran your License Number and seen that there was a "fine" attached to that person owning that DL.
I have a problem with my last name. Kuntz. In grade school, college, it was always mis-pronounced on purpose by Adults! I had a hard time in high school during the Rodney King riots, someone started saying I was related to the LAPD Cop Koons, just because of the somewhat similar pronunciation. Fun times!

got lucky lol. There are a few things you could do. Like others stated, you could simply contact the breeder.
If I were you, and really didn't want the female, I would find someone looking for a female and sell it to them/trade it for a male and some cash. Either way you'd be coming out better than original. The only exception, as previously stated, would be with spiders. It's a lot better to wind up with a missexed female than a male that was supposed to be a female.

Nope,,its a spider but it will be taken care of accordingly.
