FLexwatt is super safe if used properly.. You have to use it with a thermostat or dimmer.. It will not melt or burn anything if you have the controls on it. The Exo-terra UTH's are manufactures at the same plant using the same material as well. Hope this helps

You can mail order flex watt or get it at any herp show. If you mail order, check different prices to get the lowest price. I have heat tape on all of my cages. I solder my connections. It is easier than you think. I stick mine on with aluminum tape. Derek

I agree, it might not be really easier to solder the connections but honestly the connections are probably stronger if soldered correctly.. I solder mine as well..

I dont think you should use a dimmer with heat tape. I have several of them, of all different brands (yes even the one Bean Farm Sells) and I dont think they regulate heat for a darn. If you are handy it is really easy to turn a $30 thirmostat, plus about $20 in extra parts (one from radioshack) from lowes into a reliable thermostat.

I would say not using a thermostat on heat tape would be flirting with danger. Heat tape is not UL rated. It has burned down buildings before.
