Does anyone feed house flies?

How have you bred, raised them? Any tricks to keeping them contained, both during breeding, transport, and feeding?

Hello Ian,
We just purchase the fly pupae and go from there. It would be too much trouble to do it the long way.

You can keep the pupae cool until you want some to hatch, then place in a cup (32oz) with screen over it and keep at room temp. The flies will need to be fed once they hatch. We use a "yogurt pudding" recipe that gutloads the flies.

Once we need to feed the flies off, we place the cup (with screen still in place) in the fridge for a few minutes (until all the flies drop to the bottom and are still). Then we place the cup (screen removed) inside the chameleon cage (or whatever herp in a closed enclosure so the flies don't escape) and let them warm up again.

Its pretty simple, really and the chams love them.
Hope this helps,
