General question..

bigdog1002 Oct 06, 2005 02:23 PM

I'm planning on buying a CB baby retic within the next year. I don't really care about size. I already own a 9.5 foot Burmese (and growing) so I'm aware of the space needed for large snakes. In fact I want a large snake. All I really care about is not getting bitten, even though we all know that is inevitable.. I guess I should say not get bitten many times. I can say that my Burmese has only bitten me once (and never attempted to bite anyone else) and that was only because of a stupid feeding error when she was a baby.
Are the regular variety the most docile, generally speaking? And is either sex more agressive than the other? Thanks in advance.

I've owned all but the super tiger. Any snake can be "docile" or "aggresive" per se which ever way you go. I would say go with what you think is more attractive to you then look for a baby in that specific type (i.e. Jampea, Regular, Tiger, Super Tiger, Albino, etc.). Since you know your way around big snakes (the burm comments) then you know what your getting into as far as space requirements, hides, temps, etc. I have had retics that are very "gentle" eaters and some that are extremely aggresive at dinner time. Same could be said for some of my burms as well. I think your on the right track though and it is very nice to see someone asking questions prior to instead of after the fact.

As far as gender with respect to aggression, same can be said. Go with your gut on what you want.
