Can They Be Put Together Yet?

blixs Oct 06, 2005 08:05 PM

I had my two bearded dragons in the tub together tonight and the male is still a little smaller but much more alert than my female. The dragon at the top is the male and the other is my older female. Wondering if they would be safe in the same tank or would she kill him? Should I let them out in my room to see what happens? What do you all think?

Some images are of my new puppy ignore those.

Well this may be a debated issue but I think most people recommend dragons be kept separate. I think even if you plan on breeding your pair they should only be put together for a short period of time to breed then separated again. I don't have the specifics on your pair to know if they are even old enough or big enough for that. Keeping them together can cause too much stress on the female and the possibility of some serious fights. If they are just great pets...keep them happy in their own spaces. If your breeding, let them do their thing and then keep them happy in their own spaces.

That what I mean. Freddy (female) 17-18", Pyro (male) 15-16". Freddy is 3-4 yrs old, and Pyro is about 1yr 2 months.I'm not going to slap em together just yet, but wondering if they could be out at the same time and not eat each other.

i highly doubt they will eat each other but the stress will be very high.

Your female deffinitely is old enough to breed and your male is as well. The size difference may be a problem, especially if they are housed together for long periods of time. If you do want to breed them, you can intruduce them on neutral ground (ie bedroom floor) and keep a close eye on them. Once they have mated a few times, then it's best to keep them separated.

The size difference isn't enough for the female to eat the male, but if she doesn't like them she can injury him quite badly in a fight. Hence, when putting them together, stay nearby to separate them should fighting start.
