COLOMBIAN RAINBOW BOA BREEDING

snakeman365 Oct 06, 2005 11:01 PM

I am looking for information on breeding rainbows. I have a male that is about 3ft and a female about 4ft. Both of the snakes were given to me so I don't know their exact age. I would like to know of any potential problems that I could face with these snakes, also any special care needs for them. Yes, I have hatched eggs before, but no live births.

I have 9 snakes now:

1 albino bull
1 western hognose
1 honduran
1 hog island boa
1 grayband king
1 mtn king
1 woma
2 rainbows

I am planning to start breeding hondurans soon and I have been considering breeding the rainbows. Thanks Colby

Colby,
....I used to breed Colombian Rainbows. I still have a pair but they have not bred for several years. Breeding this subspecies seems to require a winter time cooling dropping the temperature 5 or 10 degrees for 4 to 6 weeks. Mine would breed after they had been cooled for a couple weeks and continue breeding for several weeks after they had been warmed back up. Babies were delivered around 5 months after last observed matings. At foru feet your female may not be large enough for breeding yet. These snakes deliver large babies and sometimes the litters are large. A four foot CRB may not have enough mass to carry many babies and not enough extra body fat to last through the 4 or 5 months that they typically do not eat while gravid.
Good Luck,
Jeff

Hi Jeff, thanks for the heads-up on the rainbow's like I said I was given these snakes. they are healthy and eating well. I was just thinking about breeding them, but that has changed now. If you might happen to know anyone who might like to have a pair let me know as I need to down size. Iam starting to breed hondurans soon.
