Pulcher breeding size / weight

jim merli Oct 07, 2005 06:09 AM

A good friend recently gave his pair of pulcher to me on a breeding loan . He said they were 'sub-adults' but noticed imeediately the female looks like she's very heavey towards the rear as if she's ovulating.

Anyone know what size the females should be before putting her with the male ?

its all about the gurth! when they are about the sise of a penny (with out food in there belly) then they are at the minimum sise but much better if they are the sise of a nickel. when they are big or old enough they will breed. you can put them together when they are still to small and they just wont breed. hope this helps.

Yeah, it does help ... thanks for the response.

I'm sure she's ready and ovulating ... it was just that I was told they were 'sub-adults' so wasn't sure if she was large enough and didn't want to risk egg binding - especially when they aren't my snakes.

Another thing was soon after I got them female ate right away and the male refused ... which is the opposite of what the guy who raised them to this point experianced all along.

Thanks again for the info.

not to sure about the ovulating part! mine breed every month (nonstop)and I never notice any ovulation. and some of them you cant tell there gravid at all < you just have to be ready for it. but thats easy when they are laying eggs every 28 days or so and about 1 to 2 weeks after every shed. let me know if I can be of any more help to you? thanks.
