Pls. Define "cuts"??

I live on the east coast .. " cuts??? " what are these cuts? please

Cut = Rock cut. It's when they blast through the side of a hill for a highway or road to go through. This creates a rock face on either side of the road with lots of crevices, etc for snakes to hide in. You then can find snakes crawling on the cuts looking for food, a mate, or whatever.
