Dont know what to do!

mbgirl17 Oct 07, 2005 09:32 AM

Hey everyone, I just got my chameleon in! He was shipped over night and im at work and they were going to leave him on my porch in the rain, so I went really quick to the post office and picked him up.. however I opened the box and the guy put a 15 inch chameleon in a very small tuperware container and there is water in the bottom. I work in the government and i cannot bring him into my office, my car is approximatly like 75 degrees right now, and humidity is high outside , but i feel so bad for him staying in the small space where he can barely move!! with water on the bottom! Should I take him out and just leave him in the regular cardboard box and close it up? or keep him in the tiny tuperware container? I get off at 3:30 today and im gonna rush home.. please help!
thanks
Steph

Maybe if you discuss your situation with the reception desk you might be able to leave him there until you get off work. I wouldn't reccommend leaving him in your car all day.
As for him being stuck in the little tupperware container, he should be okay for a few more hours. The water in the tupperware container is probably there to keep him from gettin dehydrated.

Well its actually colder in my office than it is in my car, the people here like it around 70 degrees so im always wearing a sweater.... None of the women here, which most of them are like lizards and they told me to keep the slimy ugly thing in my car. And my boss who is one of those women, said I couldnt bring him in. So should I take him out of the tuperware container and stick him in the box?
Thanks soo much for all your help! Ill post pics of him once everything is set up!

What can you do, the boss said no slimey ugly things in the building...
*trying HARD not to make rude jokes about those already in the building*
ahem... just keep an eye on him, hope that it doesn't get too too hot out there. I wouldn't take him out of the container, and run home ASAP. He should be okay. Best of luck and let us know how he does.

When you said you were trying hard not to make rude jokes about poeple already in the building, were you talking about me????
Second, its raining here in MD, and my car is in a garage, with the windows open, and its like 75 degrees so I think hell be fine.
Thanks for your help again!

No no no! sorry, the jokes I was holding back were in regards to your boss and her attitude towards your reptile.
First, they're NOT slimey. Second, they're not ugly.
Sorry, I'm just being odd.

Sorry to wade in late on this. The comments about the "slimey" reptile reminded me of the reaction of a former supervisor when I brought a rescue melleri to my office after a vet visit during my workday. My boss, who always tried to appear the tough, all knowing, and unflappable biologist took one look at my green friend and backed away across the corridor with a look of suspicion and disgust on her face. Even though this cham was the gentlest and sweetest natured one I'd ever met, my boss was unwilling to even touch her. I had always felt this person was closed-minded, but now I really felt she was all bluff and no brain. Her idea of an acceptable animal was her dingy, inbred, yappy spaniel. I took care of this dog a couple of times and was convinced it had very little gray matter. I have a rescue Australian cattledog so maybe I expect more than most people do of theirs.

I would put him in the box with some damp paper towels in the bottom, and put the box in the footwell of your car just in case the sun comes out. If he's in the dark he will just snooze the time away. Tape the box top shut, punch some holes in the corners so there is a bit of air flow, and check the temp in the car during the day.
