Give him a few day minimum to settle in to his new home, then offer him a meal. Give him a couple day to digest. I know it's hard to resist handling a new snake, but it's best to let the snake settle. After letting him settle, eat and digest, start handling him everyday for 30 minutes to an hour. After a few weeks (sometimes longer) the snake will calm down.
