Mazuri Diet

redbeard92 Oct 07, 2005 01:11 PM

Any new results with the Mazuri diet? Just curious if it is worth the mess (assuming the food is completely eaten) - I just remember going through a period of feeding cichlid sticks that made the water stinky, cloudy, and would clog the filter media real quick.....

I guess this question would be directed more towards Chris Law who would be operating on a similar scale as myself, with Chris Deiter keeping his animals in very large enclosures/outdoor ponds?

thanks,

Rob

All of my crocs. My niles, gator, caiman eat it. I agree with Dieterand Law it does make the water sticky. You just have to clean the water more often. Ronnie

Crocs rule

Hi Rob,

Thus far, I have only really had one aggravating moment with this stuff. The first feeding was a little messy. After that, I am now feeding one animal in which has been willing to eat it. It didnt really make quite the same mess this time. In fact, his stool came out solid as opposed to runny which I think was the cause of the main issue at first. It will put somewhat of an oil slick at the top of the water, however, so does chicken in my experience. How good of a filter do you have? I dont have a HUGE body of water as per say, so I use a Fluval 4plus. It's not the best, but I think that is why my water changes are so much more frequent. If you have a good quality filter (perhaps a canister filter?) then you might be better off.

Overall, the diet seems good. I am now keeping the one gator that originally wasn't too enthusiastic with it. He seems to be fine with it now. I will be obtaining a P. Trigonatus soon and we will have to see about that one. Oh yeah, Ronnie, have you tried it with the Trig yet? Just curious.

Chris
