Dark Chocolate Kenyan..pic

Roy Stockwell Oct 07, 2005 03:15 PM

Has anyone ever seen a loveridgei like this? It's one of the oddest one's I've seen. I acquired it a couple weeks ago. It's super shiny and so dark brown, it's hard to see a pattern underneath. What do you guys think of this beast??
I'm already working with some Mocha/chocolate ones, but they aren't like this one. It will be a good addition to my chocolate project

Above, for comparison the dark chocolate with one of my high orange "Nuclears"

In fact, that is probably the darkest one I've ever seen. Very cool. Maybe one day you'll be producing solid black loveridgei. That would be every bit as cool as the anerys, albinos, etc. to me. Congrats and good luck with your new acquisition.

Thanks... It's not really completely melanistic though.. I thought it was when I first saw it, but it's brown not black, and it has a pearl white belly and sides....
But it's more chocolate than the others I've been producing
like the one below. The really dark one above is a mature female, and unrelated to my other line, as far as I know, so I'll breed her with the darkest of my Mocha males, and see how the babies turn out.

It'd be interesting to see it crossed with an anerythristic.
Congrats,
Max

Very nice!! I have 1 normal female that is a darker chocolate with very reduced pattern. But that one takes the cake!!

Roy, another very nice kenyan in your possession. Assuming she does have something genetic going on.perhaps breeding a normal male to get "straight hets" would be better than crossing both "strains"? Just a thought not a critique. She is nice,..I really like the dark cheek color.

How is the mocha line coming along? I remember when you posted pics of the first babies( of course you werent selling..lol..) Also, how often do any of the nuclear line make it down to the states? I am in Buffalo,NY( near the border) Email me and perhaps we can catch up.thanks,Ken
