Separating after mating? Prehensile tailed skinks?

cs_johnson Oct 07, 2005 08:22 PM

I am getting a trio of PTS, 2 girls, 1 dude. I'm wondering if and when to separate a female from the others, should she become pregnant. I have a couple of books but they aren't clear. Do you isolate the female just before she's due? Just after birth? When, and for how long?

I wouldn't isolate them at all. PTS are very family and group oriented, and will protect both babies and pregnant mothers. There should be no problem w/the male.

And how soon can a baby be put with another group away from it's mother? Of course I'm assuming campatability is possible.

The answer to your first question is you don’t separate them at all. They need to be kept in family groups. And as for your second I would not suggest separating the baby from its family any time before 6 months personally any I produce this year will be left with the family group for roughly a year. Good luck breeding them, the my males always seem ready to go but it’s hard to actually get anything out of it.
