Need Scale Counts

vtrescuekid Oct 07, 2005 09:49 PM

I've got a striped carpet python of some sort and it's either a Coastal Carpet or an Irian Jaya and the only way for me to tell for sure is by scale counts, but I haven't been able to find what the proper scale counts should be? Does anyone know them or know of a place I could find them?? I'm sure people will ask for pictures and in the pictures it looks like a Coastal Carpet but I need to be 110% sure because I'm probably going to sell him and there's a significant price difference between the two. I don't need requests to see pictures, I just need to know the scale counts or how to find them. Any help would be appreciated and thanks again.

Rescue,

Big problem...there are no scale counts....also the striping in carpets 99% of the time is a defect caused by incubation temperature and it does'nt travel along the genes.]

Generally speaking if its an older adult (6 plus years) and it is well over 7 ft it won't be a darwin/Irian Jayan (M.s.variegata) it will be a Coastal. Head shape can be a clue as well.
