change in poop

jconshue Oct 07, 2005 11:00 PM

Olivia has been perfectly healthy until now. Her poop went from solid dark brown with white urate to greenish, with a textured surface and no or a very small amount of urate. It's been like this for 3 days. What is wrong with her? It may have something to do with the new substrate. I had black calci sand and I heard that it was not good so I changed it to white sand I got from my local grange. I'm going to get playsand tomorrow. Any ideas? What substrate should I be using? Olivia is a full grown adult, about a year and a half old, and 55 grams. The cage is set up correctly with the right heat and humidity and. She has been perfectly healthy up until now. I'm feeding her mostly crickets and weekly mealworms. I give her calcium once a week and vitamins once a week now that she is an adult. Help! What's wrong with her?

If you want to use sand, playsand is the best to use. However, it is still slightly dangerous. Paper towels, tile, shelf liner, or carpetting are best.

As far as the change in poo, the best thing to do would be to take a fecal sample to a vet to check for parasites. Change in the feces usually indicates either GI upset or parasites.

Is she still eating well and behaving normally?

I took the sand out and put her on paper towels today. Her behavior has changed a little. She is eating okay, but she isn't sleeping as much during the day. I peek in on her throughout the day and her eyes are open. It isn't as dark as it used to be with the white paper towels. I'm going to get the unbleached brown kind to see if it will help. She is still active at night. She looks great. Healthy plump tail and clear eyes and nose. I weighed her yesterday and she hasn't lost any. I'm going to bring a fecal sample to the vet on Monday. She likes to dig in the sand in her hide so I will probably get the playsand as soon as I find out she is okay. Thanks for replying and I'll keep you posted.
