Introducing Sub-Adult to Adults

vegasbilly Oct 08, 2005 01:21 AM

Hi,

I was planning on putting my holdback female in w/her parents but am worried about a violent/predatory reaction. She's about 8" long. Do I just need to do it and watch like a hawk? Fatten them up first so hunger is not a motivator? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Bill

8" is a baby, juvie tops. It is never a good idea to house more than one dragon together past hatchling. especially 18" dragons [that shouldn't be together either permantently] with a baby. He WILL get eaten, hunger is a minor factor.
why do you *want* to do it?

You can't put babies and juvies in with adult dragons for many reasons. The adults can easily intimidate and deny the smaller one of food, good basking spots etc. Also, if the size difference is big enough, the adults can easily kill, maybe even eat the younger dragon. Another factor, especially later on in life, is the father will breed with his daughter which is never a good ideal with dragons.

It would be best you never put the daughter in with her parents no matter what age she is.

I agree with everyone else...

1.family memberss should never be housed together anyway because of inbreeding.
2. dragons that small should never be mixed in with larger dragons
