Developing website, I needed a logo and look what I got....lol

neilgolli Oct 08, 2005 06:04 AM

I've built a few websites in the past but I've had a hard time building one for myself that I truely like. I could not get a look and feel that felt right, my colors were all off and I had no really good starting point. I thought a logo would give me that starting point. I paid an online company for their "professional" package of logo designs and this is what I got back.

Needless to say I insisted on a full refund and got it. But its back to the drawing board as I start from scratch again this weekend.

Thanks for laughing with me and not at me....lol

LOL - that fourth one down is not too bad.

I had the same problem when I asked my dad to design a logo for us - he's an unbelievable artist and even put him self through college designing labels and such, but I guess if you don't get snakes then you just don't get snakes.

Its blue, they just did not at all fit the weak concept that I had in my head. I was thinking something artistic that simply represented a snake and left the imagination to contemplate. Something non spefic as I do breed more than just balls.

Unsure of exactly where I'm going from here, but I'll keep everyone updated as I progress.

Thought I'd toss a pic of these two girls in for fun

A very nice reduced pattern girl with an interesting head to say the least.

and an orange big patterned granite (don't know what else to call her)

You could label it Het for salvation?

I wasn't jumping down your throat to see, I had thought you had forgot to post the pic.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I look forward to it, its been a tuff process, I've spent atleast 20 hours on junk that I've actually just deleted from my hard drive it was so bad.

The problem is that they all begin to look the same. Think about the sites that stand out. Like nerd, its a crappy logo, but you remember the name. Ralph Davis, Peter Kahl, John Smith, Bob Evens, etc, etc, all the names blur together, but I remember that little snake with the crown. I think the "Golden Arches" look horrible, but you can see them a mile off and won't mistake anything else for them. I want a logo that people will remember, even if they hate it.

Have you ever seen a logo that you can not forget? I don't know how to do it, but that is what I am looking for. If you have any luck, let me know.

A case in point: Top Shelf Exotics. Not a wonderful logo, not that sexy, not even a snake in it that I remember, but it stands out. I remember that logo, whether I want too or not, I remember that logo. Maybe it is just me. Does it have the same "catchy" effect on anybody else?

I am struggling just as much, if not even more with this issue. No joy so far.

Cheers,
Al

Neil,

Those logos look really good! Quality graphics can be so hard to find! Quality graphic artists even more so!

As for creating a website, if anyone is interested, there is an excellent site that gives almost anything that you need to know to create one at: www w3schools com (place in your dots as needed there). I have used that for a long time as a quick reference. It is a great free online resource that gives everything from tutorials to quick reference information.

Good luck with your website! I would love to see a board created on kingsnake for computer/website help the same way they have for Cage and Enclosures! There are a lot of free reference sites and people in the industry that would be happy to answer questions about them (as they do in the Cages and Enclosures). Good Luck! And it really looks like you have a great start on that!
