Need advice - snake was w/out heat

wayman Oct 08, 2005 11:14 AM

My 5-year-old Green Tree Python is currenly in shed, however she started twitching when I sprayed her this morning. She's never done that before. So I put my hand near the ceramic heat emitter and that's when I realized there's no heat!!

After looking underneath I just realized that the eletrical cord to the emitter was unplugged from the ESU thermostat. The stupid Kritterz plastic thermometer has been showing 83 for the longtest! I guess it's time to invest in an eletrical one because it obviously is stuck on 83 degrees.

Should I be concerned? She's alive and has been out of the opaque color for about 5 days, which is way overdue based on her past shedding cycles. I noticed she roamed a bit around her cage (wood) last night, but didn't shed. I have no idea how long she was w/out heat. Her last meal was on 9/23 and her the mid point of her body still looks enlarged. Damn this sucks!

Thanks in advance for your comments...

have you any idea how long the ceramic heater has been off?im assuming your room temp is somewhere around 75 give or take a couple degrees??considering how many chondros are cycled 10 degrees below that even(some use an airconditioner to get the temp down)and also considering how some chondro locales are found in mountain areas where the temps go to the 60's and even 50's sometimes at night,i really wouldnt be too worried about that.its not good to have the temps low for long periods of time because of the digestion problems, but really,if it only dropped to room temperature, and its the summer,i wouldnt worry about it.
