Very Unusual Eastern Garter

5hawn Jul 20, 2003 05:53 PM

I have an eastern garter with some odd characteristics. His head is a very light tan with no pattern except for a random dark spot thats not really defined. Its body pattern is barely recognizable compared to the eastern photo in audobons. A vague stripe is noticed from the neck, and thats about it. Body is not well defined with dark brown, tan, pink, and maybe some white inbetween the scales. The bottom and lower sides is a pinkish red, and his chin is white. His eyes look pretty large for his head, similiar to a racer. Its just under 2 ft, and has very little resemblence to a red-bellied, unless its some kind of intergrade, which I highly doubt. No pics as of yet, but any info or similiar occurances would be appreciated. Its from NE PA in case anyone is wondering.

I live in monroe michigan, last year i found a baby garter snake under a board in a vacant lot, i was shocked cause i have never in all my years of snake hunting the area seen a garter like this, it took me a month to even identify him as a garter, he is a very light tan with a darker tan pattern, and the top of his head is almost a faint light green, his over all appearence is pinkish, but he is tan, like a rose tan, if i had pics i would post them, but due to the lack of a scanner, that is impossible, sorry, anyway, sounds almost similar to yours, but with pattern, hope this helps
