Color Phobia?

huhwhat Oct 08, 2005 12:05 PM

Here's a weird one I have noticed with my Collared Lizard. He doesn't appear to like the color red. If you walk up and look into the tank, he's fine. Unless you're wearing red. Red shirt, red hat, etc. Then he flips out and tears around the tank in a blind panic.

Anyone else have this sort of thing happen?

Hi there.

This is purely speculative, but Red-Tailed and Red-shouldered Hawks eat collared Lizards. Perhaps your little lizard was attacked by a hawk in the first place, and now as a result of trauma has placed red as a bad color. My lizards used to be very wary of things above them....shadows etc. If a shadow passed over them, they would often run in the "blind manner" you were talking about. My thoughts, but again its just speculation.

Hi,
This is just a guess, but I've heard red is a warning color. Or mabe It's because red is just a bright color. I haven't had any problems like that but I don't have any clothing thats red.
