poop, etc...

Usually my baby Sid has solid poo, but he hasn't had crickets lately (because the store is out *again*, grrr) and I've been trying to get him to eat more greens. Even when he was eating mostly crickets, the most of the greens he'd eat are like two or three pieces that I'd hang in front of his face, dangling a bit like an insect. Since he doesn't have any crickets though, the past few days all he'll eat is the two or three bits of greens. I even tried putting in some raspberries to entice him to eat more greens but he'll just look at me like I'm an idiot and run away back to his basking spot. He pooped again today, and like yesterday I noticed it wasn't as solid as usual..is this because of the greens or the lack of food or what? And what can I do to get him to eat more? I don't want him to starve...

Also petco said they wouldn't have any crickets till Thursday, which is CRAP, btw...They keep running out or not having enough. I decided to finally try my luck in ordering pinheads in bulk online. I was curious if any of you have tried ordering from http://www.premiumcrickets.com ? I ordered 500 pinheads so far for $10 (which really beats going to petco every other day and paying $3.79 for 50 pinheads!!) and pretty cheap shipping so they should arrive tomorrow or Tuesday...

What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance...

Joscelyne

PS the pic is what Sid looked like the first day we got him, almost a month ago. Recently he shed his belly, head and arms, but his tail has been white for the past couple of weeks and I'm waiting for it to come off. He's a cute little guy, even if he did jump onto my boyfriend's chest and attack his nipple, biting it twice! Hahaha.

When you ordered crickets, did you actually order pinheads? I think what you wanted is at least 1/4". Pinheads are exactly that, the size of a pinhead (is there time to change the order?).
A change in diet could certainly change the consistancy of his poop. Have you ever tried bearded dragon pellets? They are nice to fall back on in times like these.

well he's still a baby so I like to keep him on the tiny ones; I buy those from petco. If they're too too small I can order bigger ones when I'm all out of those. I do have pellets, but he doesn't like those either. He's eaten one out of my hand and then that was it, he just ran away.

1/4" size crickets are normally what hatchlings are fed. they aren't very big at all.

Yeah pinheads are tiny, I imagine a baby of any size could easily eat all 500 pinhead crickets in a day or two, you can barely see them and they are very fragile. They are meant for baby frogs, dart frogs and other really small animals, i feed them to my bumble bee toads occasionaly. If you can change the order try to. And i think a good place to order them from is somewhere like www.reptilefood.com or www.herpfood.com or www.flukerfarms.com they guarantee the order and you can get 1000 for 9.00 at reptilefood.com plus shipping

I haven't used that company but I order crickets all the time. If not,I buy them by the thousand from a local pet store. The pet store gives me a discount because of the quanity. Anyway, having crickets shipped is really easier. They come right to your door. My only concern would be how the pinheads will hold up through the shipping process. They are really fragile. Let me know how it turns out.
Take care,
Karen
