Antaresia childreni Digestion Question

reako45 Oct 08, 2005 02:22 PM

How long should I leave him alone after eating? He ate last Tuesday, and buried himself under the substrate til Friday. I always give my other 2 snakes (Cali king & Pac Gopher) @ least 3 days before I resume handling. Should the same rule stand for my Antaresia? Thanx.

Depends on the size of meal, the temperature of the cage, the particular snake, phase of the moon, etc., BUT I feed my spotted python in evening, don't handle it the next day, and then do handle it the following day. That amounts to not handling her for 36 - 48 hrs. Seems to work for her. That's also how I handle the rest of my snakes.

If you are feeding very large meals or the cage temp is on the cool side, you might want to avoid handling for another 24 hrs - though my real suggestion would be not to feed very large meals and to provide proper temp.

Thanx. My guy ate Tuesday and I didn't try to handle him til Monday. I'm feeding pinkies and the cage temp is 88F. The little guy is 15" long.
