Growth or abcess?

jesseter Oct 08, 2005 04:05 PM

I need information. My little albino girl who is about a year and a half old now had a lump behind her eye. It started out that way anyway. It started to get larger until I was very worried that it may be a tumor. After her shedding the area was just one large scab. I thought I would take advantage of the situation and pull back the scab to see if I could find anything like puss. As I pulled the scab a lump a little larger then a pea pulled out with the scab. It was mostly white with a little pink. There was some small amount of puss. Now I have in my past worked for a vet. and I have never seen a growth like this nor an abcess. By the smell of the wound it was infected. There are no vets that take a look at reptiles near me. Has anyone had this happen before? Does anyone know what this would be? I have been treating with neosporin. Any kinda of information is appreciated. Thank you all so much!!

Jesse

One of my girls had an abcess on her nose earlier this year. At first I thouht it was a tumor also but then when I took her to the vet all he did was lance and drain it and give me some antibiotics. It bled whenever I messed with it and but there was little to no puss. Basically all he did was cut a lil bit of skin off the top and get a q-tip and squeeze the stuff out. You could try that but unless you've done something like that before I would rather try to find a vet. Especially with it being near her eye.

Now, the pea thing doesn't make it sound like what my girl had...so really it might not be an abcess. With it being infected it doesn't sound very good. The vet said that if I had left the abcess there on my girl it wouldn't have really bothered her except after a while it might have gotten bigger and with it being on her nose cause a lilttle bit of pressure and make her uncomfortable and maybe cause difficulty breathing.

You can take this info and try to sort out the info that applies to your gecko....I would REALLY try to find a vet though.
