Jake the Male Waterdragon

tanias16 Oct 08, 2005 06:15 PM

Alright, we can settle this dispute once and for all.
In a previous thread I had mentioned that Jake's spikes were not as long and brittle looking as another male dragon's picture I had seen on this forum.
Someone suggested that perhaps Jake was a female... I think not!
Here he is in all his manly glory, 4 years old.

You can see all three pictures here:

I'm not sure how to post multiple pictures in a post.

How could such a stud be female?

I thought the forum would resize it. I can't do it on this computer, if you go to the link you can see them resized.
Again, sorry.

Spikes are not a good indicator, since they vary from population to population, and diet as well. My male has even smaller spikes then yours. the best indicator is head to body ratio. The males have a larger head then the females, also the nupitual pad, the fleshy part below the spikes on the back of the head, is also a good indicator, on males they are much larger.

So, Jake is 4 now, and most obviously male! At what age did you finally decide she was a he??? I am trying to figure out Charlie's sex for sure - one day I am sure he's a he, next day I am sure he's a she. I think his growth has been delayed due to a parasite infection that took sooo long to diagnose, despite an early visit to the vet. Big fee, little info. Big swollen belly (but very anorexic looking) and I was so sure "she" was gravid. Well, I don't think so, either way. The belly was due to the parasites. Hmmm . . .

I always knew Jake was a male. Don't ask me how lol...
Someone on the forum said he looked like a female, so I posted more pictures to show them he was obviously not female.
It is a difficult call in the youngsters. My mom's cwd is about 16" - 18" snout to tail and I'm just not sure.
I'm voting female... its hard to tell until they've really matured
