I have a 32 inch Texas Rat snake that is clearly large enough to eat small mice (weanlings). A couple months ago, I was feeding him three fuzzies every 4 or 5 days. He could have eaten hoppers, but fuzzies are what I had. I thought he was big enough move up to small mice, so I picked up a half dozen at a local pet store. He ate them, so I purchased a package of 50 small mice from Big Cheese. He wouldn't eat them even after several attempts. I had some fuzzies left (from a prior Big Cheese order), so gave that a try and he ate them. On a hunch, on the next attempt I gave him a fuzzy and a small mouse. He ate both. Thinking I had the problem licked, I tried just a small mouse again. He wouldn't eat it. Earlier tonight, I gave him a fuzzy and small mouse and he ate both again. So, I'm guessing the small mice don't smell right to him, but after the fuzzy his feeding response is elevated. My spotted python is eating the small mice, so my Texas Rat just seems to be picky. Guess I'll continue with feeding a fuzzy and a small mouse to the Texas
Rat. . .
