Got a new tadpole and I have no idea what kind

rog Oct 08, 2005 09:35 PM

I got some free plants today and when I looked in the tank I saw a tiny tadpole. It is black maybe one inch at most. I have it in a five gallon tank with rocks making a ramp just in case. Maybe about two inches of water and some plants. It swimming on the other side of the tank so I can not see any thing such as mouth or eyes. I know I know no help. But I live in North eastern Louisianna if that helps. What can I find this thing? It still has a tail. Thanks Shannon

I used this key to ID my tads:

http://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/tadpole/division_4.htm

If you wait a little while it may come over to the near side of the tank to eat; after some algae grew on the glass, mine would eat it off, which gives you a great opportunity for looking at mouths and eyes etc in detail.

Hope that helps!

there are tadpole pellets you could try. other than that it sounds like you are doing good. keep the water clean.
