Ressesive Question

shinysnakeskin Oct 09, 2005 03:01 AM

i saw a link that sent me to a site called Genetics Wizzard... so i was seeing how it works and read somethings and i wanted to know what happens if you breed a homo albino to a normal "wild type".... it told me that the babys would be hets.... correct me if im worng but i thought that if you bred a full on albino to a normal you would get an albino baby out of that breeding?
can you get an albino baby by breeding an albino to a normal?
im rubbing my head now cause im confused a little bit..... so many balls....
so okay..... ressesives..... when you have a homo (the actual morph) do you have to breed it to a het of what every morph you are aiming to get?
and co-doms and doms are the ones that you can breed a homo to a normal and get the homo and normals??....
i think iam right but if im wrong correct me...
thank you

When you breed an albino to a normal, you get all 100% het albinos.

Breed albino to het albino, you get albinos and het albinos.

Breed het albino to het albino, you get albino, possible het albino, and normal.

When you breed co-doms to normals, you get babies that are co-doms and normals.

you said you would get albinos, possible hets, and normal.

Statistically you would get 50% hets and 25% normals. That's why they are possible hets.

I would have wrote it more like this:
het x het= albinos, hets, normals.

Saying possible hets and then normals might confuse the non-genetics wizards. They'd all be possible hets

Glad that you've pointed that out, Cole. You're right. It was getting late when I wrote it and didn't bother to double check.

So yes, het albino to het albino would get you albino, het albino, and normal. I should also add that just because you've bred het to het... that does not garantee that you will get an albino or two out of that breeding... there's only a 25% chance of getting one from each egg (not the clutch). So there is a chance of stiking out and not get any from that breeding... just have to do over. Hope this clarified things a bit.

I understood what you are saying, but I just wanted to make sure others didn't become more confused by this.

Yeah, I figured you knew what I was saying or trying to say. I figured I'd better further clarify things a bit for the original poster.

okay i think i understand now... i guess before when i would look at breeding pictures of ball pythons, i would see a full blown albino or pied and think that the male was breeding to a normal female....i guess some of the pics where het females....okay...... have to start saving up for some het female albinos now....i have one 100% het albino male that i just got a few weeks ago...exciting...
and let me just double check and make sure that im not getting mixed up.....
co-doms and dom....if you breed a full blown homo....like a pastel (co-dom right....) to a normal female youll get pastels and normals....NO HETS....
i understand now what you have to breed to get what....
thank you all!!!
