New photos of trio said to be Leon Co. Florida but high count

coolhl7 Oct 09, 2005 09:28 AM

The dam was WC from NW Leon Co. and said to be typical. It was released after eggs dropped. 3 of the hatchling were said to have high yellow bellies. The seller has some holdbacks and will shoot me some photos soon. Here are photos of my trio.

Very nice, they look more like easterns than floridana.

coolhl7 Oct 09, 2005 02:41 PM

They are easterns,...the question is why do they look like NJ stock when the seller, who I really dont know but sounds reliable, said they came from a WC Leon County eastern that had typical features for that locale???

JETZEN Oct 09, 2005 03:07 PM

Well then, maybe they look like their pop, L.g g. can and sometimes, vary a lot even within any given area.
here's one that i acquired a couple of months ago

nice!
I will take an aggressive feeding response over any other attribute in a snake...I just hate picky eaters....

JETZEN Oct 09, 2005 06:49 PM

Me too! i hope yours do fine.

I agree about variability in a given area. But I really, really doubt that there would ever be a HUGE band count disparity within the same locale. I think the seller HAS sold you some locality "BORN-in-Leon-county" animals but the parents are not from there. . .
Could I sell you some Cumberland county, North Carolina locale, California Kingsnakes simply because the babies hatched Here and not in California? Okay, you get my point. . .
Thanks for posting those other pics & your honesty! I'm glad you're happy with them. If you change your mind, let me know, as I do think they're nice looking animals!

Here's a pic of one of my S. GA animals. . .

I hope that was a friendly jab at Zee ....as his comments are dead on. They just dont have high band counts like that and if they did it would be an anomoly but the whole clutch looked like that from what Ive seen. In other words some of the babies would look classic Leon Co. while others would be high count crossbars but thats not the case.

Ofcourse it was just a friendly forum jab at Zee,
it's all good and thanks for not getting your panties in a wad.
I choose to give the seller of those different looking "Leon co."easterns the benefit of the doubt.

coolhl7 Oct 10, 2005 02:04 PM

I really have to agree with Zee and Keith.....
but I really like them nonetheless and will keep posting photos as they age.
I just love high count easterns...

Forgot to mention . . . YES I love the high band count too. Like I said, if you ever change your mind, I'll take those beauties of your hand - No questions asked, LOL! Keep postin' pics of those as they get older. THANKS!
Here's a pic of the one I found with the highest band count ever (for a Southeastern-non-mountainous locality). The only Southeastern NC King with 30 bands (from neck to vent) so far!

I've never found an Eastern with that high of a band count here in N. FL or even Georgia for that matter. I would have to guess Keith may be right as it looks more like a specimen from NJ. If you look at all the specimens featured on Keith's website too, not a single one has that high of a band count.

Norm, has the person told you where in Leon County it was found? If you have/get that information, I'd be interested in hearing about it. Thanks!
