Now that is one insane looking melanistic ETB!
Mike, That is one beautiful ETB.....Have you sold him yet???
more photos, please!!!!
Cool.. ask and you shall receive!
I have been fortunate enough to photo Mike's snake.. and can show some more of him..

Tim, Thanks, great photos, but as you well know, no photo can do these bad boy melanistic ETBs justice since their true colors really come alive in the sunlight. I hope somehow that male finds a mate and we can get some neos on the market. Norm
Tim, I didn't know you were on these forums. I really like this one you took of him.

I am lurking everywhere Mike.. actually I have been reading the frog stuff for a bit.. I just added 8 more to the collection.. some tigerlegged monkeys and some clowns..
BTW.. that is one of my favorite pics too.. I still dont think I have one that has done that snake justice though, it is a nice speciman..

Anybody know if the black pigment is genetic or not?
Black pigment has been proven genetic many times. Tony Nicoli is probably the most well known with his 'Dark Phase' line of emeralds. Historically they start out looking like normal babies and as they grow they develop more black. There are also a couple of lines of emeralds from Europe in the private sector that turn very, very black over time. The animal posted has genetic black pigment in my opinion! Hope this helps....
