Is my mali a male or female?

Sardoniccheese Oct 10, 2005 12:54 AM

Here is a pic of her/him. My boss gave it to me. He said the vet said it was a girl, but it has boy coloring. She is 3 years old. Any suggestions on sexing it? I want to get it a mate but I need to make sure this is definatly not a male before I get a male from someone.

hey there, congrats on your new uro. the coloring does look alot like a male but there is such thing as a male mimic female. i will search around on the forum and see if i can see the sexing instructions that torey always gave out.

Males can often be distinguished by their large femoral pores and hemipene bulges just below the vents. To see the shape of the hemipene bulge look at the base of the tail, just below the vent, and gently lift the tail.
Here is a picture of a male's underside

Okay I am assuming that she is infact a female. Because her bulges are small and v-shaped. So I guess shes a male mimic female.

that's sounds about right... it's hard to see because the picture is a bit blurry.
These are hard animals to sex. Probing doesn't work either.
There are differences in the shape of their heads too (when veiwed from above) but unless you are comparing two animals, it's hard to see.
