portion of tail missing on hatchling...

ZFelicien Oct 10, 2005 02:08 PM

I have an `05 male snake... i took him out today to feed him and i noticed the tip of his tail was gone? i've never had this happen b4 and i was wondering if any of you know why this would happen.

If you look near the tear drop on the background you see his tail... it no longer looks like that, the most slender portion(the tip) is GONE!?

Thanx in advance

If they are not humid enough when they go through shed the tail tip will not come off during shed and after a short while the tip of the tail will die and fall off. I try to check each shed for tail tips and eye caps. I learned the hard way too.

That Makes perfect sense but i manually shed this guy myself on his last shed... i found it weird that he hadn't shed, when i check on him he was all dry, so i soaked him for a while then took his shed off myself... i mean, i don't think it'll affect him in any way but he looks weird???

Thanx for letting me know thou... i'll start checking on that.

Oh BTW what's going on with those pix? i wanna pick one out, unless you've already put mine aside... man i been so bizzy lately i forgot all about um till you responded to this post.

You may have taken his tail tip off yourself. I did that to a corn years ago and it is when I started looking much more carefully at the humidity and the shed cycles. I ended up putting a deli filled with moist sphagnum moss in every cage soon after that happened. One more thing to clean but it helps a ton.

Oh as for the pics i was lazy and then sick. I have not sold any and i won't until you get pics to choose from. I have a show this weekend so I will need to get you some quick to not be a liar. LOl
