How Much Is Too Much To Feed A 50 LB Sulcata Tortoise

stano40 Oct 10, 2005 02:35 PM

How much is too much to feed a 50 lb. sulcata tort and what are the dangers of overfeeding (besides a fat tort).

That's an interesting question, how can you tell if a sulcata tort is too fat??

and do they have weight loss clinic's for them???? (LOL)

it's unlikely you're going to feed a big tortoise "too much". it's possible to feed too much of the wrong diet, but as long as you're feeding the right diet, giant tortoises never stop eating! it's also unlikely that your tort will get too fat just by eating. that being said, you certainly should get your tort on a schedule, so you know when and what the tort has eaten; that's just part of basic maintenance.
